AMARILLO, TX -- It's been a rocky year for professional baseball in Amarillo, with the Dillas losing their lease and the battle to bring in a new team.
But the new Sox team is assembled, the stadium is getting a once over, and two weeks from tonight, we'll hear that ever familiar, "play ball" to kick off the season .
It's a sign of the time and a sign of change...the new Sox logo sign went up today, just two weeks shy of opening night with renovations taking place right up until first pitch, according to general manager, Mark Lee.
"We have new ownership that's supported us 100%. We open in 2 weeks, it's going to be a great year, I'm so excited and it's going to be a banner year for Amarillo. "
And there are a lot of changes and improvements being made to the new Sox Stadium.
"A 3-level restaurant with a bartender and two waitresses, a little Italian restaurant is being introduced, opened up the bar areas and we have a whole new look, new uni's and new infield. "
You'll recall, all this ties back into the American Association of Independent Professional baseball going before Potter County Commissioners at the end of last year to keep baseball in Amarillo.
"The community has deserved this for a long time, Mark and his staff have done a great job getting the inside and outside of the stadium up to a level that the citizens of Amarillo deserve," said Scott Berry of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball.
Workers are rounding third base when it comes to being completed, and pretty soon the boys of summer will be making it onto the field to kick off the 1season ever of Sox baseball.
Tickets start at 5 bucks for general admission up to 7 dollars to for field level box seats, along with season tickets ranging from 200 to 300 dollars.
