Hello everyone, this is Pronews 7 News Director Steve Pair. I thought I would start writing this weekly little bit and talk a little about what events could be making news this week. I can tell you, this week is already shaping up to be a busy one.

On Monday, there is a big press conference regarding the sale and use of K2/Spice. These are marijuana-like substances that have recently been outlawed. It sounds like local law enforcement is about to start cracking down on the sale of them. Those expected to attend the press conference include Amarillo Police Chief Robert Taylor, County Sheriffs Joel Richardson and Brian Thomas, as well as the 47th District Attorney Randall Sims and Scott Brumley with the Potter County Attorney's Office. The ban went into effect toward the ends of April and applies to five synthetic cannaninoid substances, however, it's possible that company's are starting to make similar products that do not include these five ingredients, will they be banned as well? That's one of the questions we will try and answer for you. Also on Monday, four people will be inducted into the Palo Duro High School Hall of Fame.

On Tuesday, there will be a Community Youth Development Meeting, they are looking for input on the youth programs which provide service to the 79107 zip code. The meeting will start at 6:00 at the North YMCA, 1330 NW 18th. It sounds like there will be a very cool watch party at KACV for the Freedom Riders from 11:00-1:00, also I believe that Wednesday's episode of Oprah will also be on this topic.

Wednesday appears to be a bit slower, which they always tend to be. We do know that a group of students from West Texas A&M University will present their recommendations on the use of Ascension Academy's windmill. The engineering students have been studying the issue for a semester. You can check out a story we did on it in January here.

Things pick back up on Thursday, the Texas Department of Transportation is holding an open house ton Loop 335 Corridor Management. What is that? Good Question, here is what the press release says. The purpose of the meeting is to gather input from the public in order to establish a corridor management program with a focus on safety, mobility and corridor preservation. It runs from 4:00-7:00 at the Human Resource Conference Center, 5715 Canyon Drive, building H. We will have a crew there. Of course, May 5th is also the National Day of Prayer. Hillside Christian Church will be open from 7:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. for "come and go" prayer. We will see if we can put a list together of events and share that with you on Wednesday.

Friday, the Amarillo Independent School District will have its Teacher of the Year Breakfast. Thanks to all the teachers for what they do and good luck to those in the running. The Walmart on Coulter will also be having its grand re-opening at 8:00 Friday morning. I don't know if you've been in the store recently, but they have totally been renovating the place. It should be interesting to see how it looks.

Also, there will be a slew of public meetings on downtown, here is a list!

Monday at 6:30 at Forest Hill Elementary, 3515 E. Amarillo Blvd.

Tuesday at 6:30 at San Jacinto Elementary, 3500 SW 4th Ave.

Wednesday at 6:30 at Tradewind Elementary, 4300 S. Williams St.

Thursday at 6:30 at Puckett Elementary, 6700 Oakhurst Dr.

This isn't everything, but only a glimpse of what you will see on Pronews 7 this week. Did we miss something? Is there something you would like to see us do a story on? Do you have questions about a particular story that you want answered? Drop me a line at spair@kvii.com and let me know.

In the mean time, have a great week!
