AMARILLO, TEXAS -- As the summer months approach, Pronews 7 knows many parents are looking for activities to keep your kids busy.

We have a list of activities sure to fill their summer schedule. From the city's Park and Recreation Department, to libraries, even kids' college at Amarillo College. There's plenty on tap for your kids to do this summer.

From playing in the city's parks and pools, to sports camps. The city's Park and Recreation Department has a ton of free stuff on tap.

"We have a lot of programs. We have summer camp, we have Jammin' Jyms. The camps we have basketball camps, volleyball camps, baseball camps, and they are free for the kids," said Jose Munoz, Parks and Recreation Department Marketing Coordinator.

City pools open May 29. The city's "Summer Recreation Program" with arts and crafts in parks and free lunches start up June 3rd.

Now to the city's libraries. All branches are busy with a full schedule of free fun. Starting next month with their summer reading program.

"Kids can meet dogs and pet them, they can observe radio control aircraft, they can listen to music they can design their own bookmarks. So there are crafts activities, reading activities, and game activities and that goes on throughout the month of June," said Stacy Clopton Yates, Library PR Coordinator.

"You ask any teacher and they'll tell you do they want their kids to read over the summer. So they want their kids to do puzzles and play games over the summer? Of course they do because that keeps yours mind active and so you're much more ready to start learning when you get back to school," said Clopton Yates.

Registration for Amarillo College's "kids College Summer 2011" is underway. Kids as young as two can sign up for summer camps and classes like dance, gymnastics, even cool Science classes, building things like robots.

"We have a new program too that's hosted by Ascension Academy. For the first two weeks with that program we have morning and afternoon classes so your child could go all day long from 9 to 5 with lunch in between," said M.J. Coats, AC Continuing Education.
