BORGER, TEXAS -- Two large pieces of history are coming to the Panhandle in the form of steel beams, but these aren't just any regular pieces of metal.
After getting approval from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey in September of 2009, Retired Fireman Bob Tiffany, decided it would be a good idea to bring in two large steal beams from the fallen World Trade Centers and construct a 9/11 memorial.
"Once I got ahold of everyone else we sat down and talked about the memorial and what we wanted to build and it evolved quite a bit from what we started with and it's turned out to be a really nice thing that we're having now."
The beams will be cut into two, four foot pieces, to depict the Twin Towers of the memorial.
The two pieces will sit on a rusted steel base plate, which sits on top of a five-sided base representing the Pentagon, according to Tiffany creating an emotional scene.
"We want to make sure that the future generations know exactly what the emergency services did and going up the stairs helping people down the stairs and losing their lives to help other people."
It also serves as a reminder to fire fighters alike why they chose to do what they do.
"It's something to look back on, we're going to remember back on with the younger generations coming up they're going to be able to remember the sacrifice that we've lost, I mean, we've lost a lot of brothers a lot of sisters, it's very emotional for all of us," said Roger Dudley, Borger Fire Department.
Dudley went on to say that the memorial will bring a lot of moral to the city of Borger and the entire Panhandle.
And Tiffany did say that they are hoping for the memorial to be complete on September 11th where a memorial service and dedication will be held.
