CARSON COUNTY, TEXAS -- $280,000 worth of marijuana was found in a vehicle traveling on Interstate 40 Thursday morning.

Texas Dept. of Public Safety says a 2005 Nissan car was stopped for speeding in Carson County near Conway just after 9:00 a.m. Thursday. Consent to search the vehicle was denied and a K-9 unit was called to the scene.

The K-9 unit detected the presence of a controlled substance in the vehicle during a free air sniff. A probable cause search was then conducted and 80 pounds of marijuana was found in the trunk.

DPS says the marijuana is valued at $280,000 and was being transported from Las Vegas, Nev., to Memphis, Tenn.

Gavan P. Tafeaga, 25, the driver of the vehicle, was arrested and booked into the Carson County Jail for possession of marijuana
