AMARILLO, TX -- Voter turnout in Amarillo for Saturday's election was considered pretty good, with about 13 and a half percent of the population voting.
Pronews 7 got the breakdown Monday morning, looking at where the most votes were cast and which polling places had the highest percentage of voters. The southwest side was the largest representative, averaging about 20 percent from the top 10 precincts, according to city secretary, Donna Deright.
"Kinda like it's always been in the past. There are areas that do vote better than other areas. We have parts in both Potter and Randall that have higher turnout. Avondale, Bivins, Windsor, Sleepy Hollow, Puckett, all had more than 20%"
Even with 11 candidates vying for the mayoral spot, election officials thought there might be a run-off. With Harpole's majority win, it saves the city about $12,000, by not having a run-off election.
