EL PASO, TEXAS -- It's the story of a dwarf who was fired for asking to use a stool to perform her job at an El Paso Starbucks.
According to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Elsa Sallard was allegedly fired after just three days of training because it was deemed that she posed a danger to customers and coworkers.
The EEOC says Starbucks violated the Americans With Disabilities Act by firing her. The Houston Chronicle reports that the EEOC is seeking lost wages and compensatory damages for Salard. Also in the lawsuit, the agency wants Starbucks to adopt policies to correct and prevent disability discrimination.
In a statement, Starbucks said its policies strictly prohibit discrimination on the basis of disability and provides for equal opportunity for equal employment opportunities.
