AMARILLO, TX -- In case you didn't know, this Saturday is armed forces day across the country.
Out at the Pantex plant, they held their annual Armed Forces day celebration today as a way to pay honor to the military and some of their own.
It was a short ceremony, small in terms of pomp and circumstance, but large in terms of pride. Pantex has recognized armed services day for years, and for employees who have ties to the military, it's a double tribute ... both for the plant's military support by what they do and their support of their employees who serve, according to employee and active military member, Naval Senior Chief, Sherry Sanders.
"Today is a great day for the company, for Pantex, to say thank you to all of the vets, all the active duty, the reservists, the retired folks out here to say thank you for serving our country."
It's that pride that can be seen on all the faces of people attending today's ceremony and luncheon... and it's something that can still be seen all across the U.S.
"America learned it's lesson in Vietnam, they really did. They had great Americans serving and there weren't necessarily given the respect they deserve. Whether you supported the war in Afghanistan or not, I think America truly supports the soldiers, sailors, Air Force, Marine and Coast Guard fellows who are pretty much putting it on the line every day," says Rod Johnson, Director of Safeguard Security
Pantex also showed off it's Wall of Heroes...Their direct tie to the military ...a tribute to all who serve.
Pantex currently employes about 800 people directly tied to the military.... about a fourth of its workforce.
