AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A Dumas woman was killed Sunday evening after her car veered off the roadway on the Dumas highway. Officials say alcohol was possibly involved.
Texas Department of Public Safety says Shawnann K. Phillips, 25, was traveling northbound on US 87 just five miles north of Amarillo when her vehicle veered off the road and went into the center median.
Phillips then over corrected to her right, according to DPS, and that caused her to lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle overturned several times before coming to a rest in the southbound lanes of US 87 on its top.
Phillips was pronounced dead at the scene and her passenger, Hector Torres, was transported to Northwest Texas Hospital where he was listed in critical condition.
Both were wearing their seatbelts. DPS says alcohol is possibly a factor in this fatal crash.
