Yes, you read the headline correctly.... Gas prices dipped below $3 in Dalhart yesterday.
How? Well, store employees are calling it 'good ol' competition!'
It all started when the Express Lane was having its grand opening. Allsups manager Irma Green says they noticed gas prices were cheaper at Express Lane so they decided to bump theirs down.
That's when it all went downhill... Literally. Each station continued to try and beat out the competition to make their prices lower. The result, $2.97 per gallon gasoline!
Prices originated at $3.61 before the steady decrease of 64 cents!
"It made a lot of people really happy for a little bit," the owner of Express Lane told Pronews 7.
Residents of Dalhart were certainly not shy about the cheaper gas. Droves of people flocked to the stations resulting in congested traffic. Police were even called to the scene to help regulate.
Around 60 cars could be scene in the area waiting for a chance to get their cheap fill. The dip in prices lasted about three hours before prices were brought back up to normal.
