CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) - An eastern New Mexico inmate is recovering after losing part of an ear in a jailhouse fight.

The Clovis News Journal reports the injured Curry County inmate was fighting with another inmate Friday evening over an MP3 player.

Curry County Undersheriff Wesley Waller says the fight ended when one of the inmates bit off a portion of the other's ear.

Waller says charges are pending against each inmate.

Jail staff has previously said inmates can have approved MP3 players brought in by their families.
