AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Police are on the lookout for a man who they say attempted to rob a local grocery store and ended up shooting an employee.

The incident happened at the United Supermarket at 3400 River Road. Police say four employees were walking toward the store entrance when a black male approached them and told them to put the money they were carrying in a till and bank bag on the floor. The suspect was allegedly pointing a handgun at the employees.

According to police, the suspect fired two shots and one hit a 55-year-old employee in the hand causing severe injury. The injury, however, is not life-threatening.

The suspect then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. He is described as a black male who is six foot or taller, ages 19-25, with a slim build and with dark clothing.
