ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Albuquerque's red light cameras are on again and looking for drivers. The switch was flipped at midnight after the city renewed a contract with the private company that operates the cameras.
Albuquerque drivers had a two-week break when the contract ended and the cameras were shut off.
KRQE-TV reports that councilors voted 7-2 this week and gave the green light in favor of a new contract with Redflex Traffic Systems.
Red-light runners who run through any of the 14 intersections around town equipped with cameras can expect their pictures in the mail along with a $75 fine.
Councilor Dan Lewis had proposed letting voters decide the fate of the camera contract, but it was voted down in Monday night's council meeting.
