AMARILLO, TEXAS -- No fuses, no aerials, no fireworks...period.

That's the order for the City of Amarillo along with Potter, Randall and many other counties in Texas this summer. But what about poppers? Are these small ground poppers or confetti shooters banned, too?

That answer, thankfully, is no.

"There is some confusion about what is banned, I believe. Anything that could be lit to make a firework or make a firecracker work is what the city and county has banned. There's still some items that shoot paper confetti, have no spark whatsoever in them and we still sell those", said Wal-Mart Market Manager David Craig.

So, confetti and ground poppers are "not" banned by the county but they still aren't being sold everywhere. Wal-Mart stores in Amarillo and surrounding areas have pulled the popular TNT ground poppers from their shelves.

"One of the concerns has been the party popper which does make a slight spark and I made a decision myself a week ago when I heard about the ban that as a company we do not need to sell those in the Panhandle with the drought", said Craig.

Still dying to pop something this July? Confetti poppers like these can still be found in all local Wal-Marts. Like any caring citizen, safety for the community has been the number one concern all along.

"We just want to make sure that it's as safe as possible for all the people that live here and I'm not going to risk any type of issue because of the drought when it came to those little poppers", said Craig.

The decision to pull ground poppers from local Wal-Mart shelves was made last week and you won't be seeing them again until the ban is lifted. Confetti poppers, on the other hand, are still fair game.
