LUNA, NM (AP) - The Wallow Fire in eastern Arizona and western New Mexico is 51 percent contained after burning 798 square miles. The wind driven fire spread to the northeast past Luna, N.M. The fire has crossed Trout Creek and is moving toward Bishop Canyon in New Mexico.
SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - A wildfire near Santa Fe has grown to 3,000 acres. The Forest Service says the Pacheco Canyon Fire is burning nine miles north of Santa Fe in mixed conifer and ponderosa pine. No structures are immediately threatened. The fire is growing north and east toward the Pecos Wilderness.
RATON, N.M. (AP) - Authorities say a 28,000-acre wildfire along the New Mexico-Colorado border apparently was started by engine exhaust from an all-terrain vehicle that was trespassing on railway land. The Track Fire began eight days ago north of Raton. State and BNSF investigators say it appears an ATV rider trespassed onto railroad property from nearby private land. Colfax County sheriff's deputies are now is seeking information on the person or persons riding ATVs in the area near the origin of the fire.
EL RANCHO, N.M. (AP) - State police have little information on three suspicious deaths discovered in El Rancho, a small town north of Santa Fe. Sgt. Tim Johnson told The Associated Press this morning that details are still sketchy and the cause of the deaths hasn't been determined, though they appear to have been shot.
