AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Many were in attendance Wednesday as West Texas A & M University and the Amarillo area community honored Amarillo's former mayor for her years of service by announcing the establishment of the Honorable Debra A. McCartt Distinguished Professorship of Public Service.

Hundreds filled the Amarillo Civic Center to recognize her leadership and commitment to our area.

Through this professorship, WT faculty will be exposed to new opportunities and additional resources, and it will create an annual conference to focus on innovative solutions to challenging issues facing our community.

"It really is such a humbling experience it's just truely an honor for me and I am so proud, because this will continue for years to come for those that really have a desire to serve," said McCartt.

Faculty in WT's Criminal Justice, Emergency Management Administration and Public Administration programs will benefit from this professorship.
