AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A few busy hands were hard at work today in Amarillo and have been all week. 15 groups from churches across Texas have taken over Amarillo as part of the United Methodist "Action Reachout Mission by Youth". The UM-ARMY's mission?? To help Amarillo citizens using their hands, hearts and the love of the the Lord.

"The idea was to create a mission trip that allowed the students to be able to reach out to communities in need. It's the best way that I know and that the kids know how to show that God loves you", says Camp Director for UM-ARMY, Tim Day.

"The devastation that some of the houses have like horrible roofs and missing siding, we just need to help out" says volunteer youth, Darrell Wood.

And what looks like a lot of tiring work is, well, just that -- work.

"It's definitely worth it. I mean, we have fun too. I mean, it's work but it's fun work", admits mission volunteer, Leslie Bonorden.

But the spirits of these youth and adults couldn't have been any higher.

"Just out here serving the Lord, showing them that He's here for them and we're here for them too out of the love of our hearts just having fun while doing it", adds Wood.

"Everyone's positive. Like, I haven't heard one negative comment", continues Bonorden.

By Saturday, more than 150 UM-ARMY youth and adults will have serviced around 25 different homes and families...something students say is priceless.

"I already feel good but I can't imagine how I'm going to feel on Saturday just that we've helped so many people and just, you know, I think it kind of changes your life a little bit", says Bonorden.
