AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Amarillo Crime Stoppers and Craigslist helped Police catch a man who was selling a stolen laser values at $7,000.
Crime Stoppers received a tip of someone selling an expensive laser transmitter on Craigslist. Officers contacted the seller and arranged to meet him.
Undercover officers met the seller at a residence in West Amarillo and possession was made of the laser remote control. He was then taken into custody.
The suspect originally gave officers the wrong name but he was later identified as Melvin Martin Williams, 21. He was found to have an outstanding parole violation warrant.
Williams took officers to a location where the laser was located. He was brought to the police department for further questioning. A female who drove him, Annette Williams, 24, was taken into custody for possession of marijuana under two ounces.
It was discovered that the laser had been stolen in an auto burglary June 9. More stolen items were found, including an air compressor and several accessories.
Williams is charged with Theft Over $1,500 and less than $20,000 and failure to identify.
