AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Most parents want only the best for their children and starting today, a new US law says "the best" excludes all drop side baby cribs.
It is now illegal to manufacture or sell these cribs in any store, resale shop or even garage sale.
Since 2000, many baby deaths have been blamed on drop side cribs, which led to the recall of many cribs before the ban actually took effect.
"Most of them have actually been recalled so it was really hard for us to take these cribs in and at that point I chose just to not take any of them at all knowing that there was a ban coming up", says owner of Tenderly Used resale store, Brandi Curless.
But store owners and parents aren't the only ones affected by this new ban.

But store owners and parents aren't the only ones affected by this new ban.
"It is not just childcare centers that are going to be affected by this. Hotels, accommodations for church nurseries. It's going to be widespread and it is going to be a big deal for people that are in the business of taking care of children", says owner of Brown's Playhouse Daycare Inc. in Canyon, Lynn Brown.
Brown knows this from personal experience. She just remodeled her own daycare with 10 brand new drop side cribs and she says replacing them won't be cheap.
"Unfortunately our new beds are not going to be able to be sold. We'll just take it out of savings and we'll buy all 10 new beds at the same time. It's not going to be an easy task", adds Brown.
So whether you agree with the ban or not, no one can sell these baby beds...and it looks like the only place they belong now is the trash.
"That's going to be the new thing now... Destroying baby beds", says Brown.
All cribs manufactured from today on must comply with all the new regulations. Churches, daycares or any other facility that provides infant childcare will have one year to replace all the drop side cribs.
