A man remains behind bars after he led officers on a foot chase and was found with what is believed to be meth.
Amarillo Police say the incident happened Thursday afternoon just before 1:00. A motorcycle officer saw a purple Chevrolet traveling east on Janet from Western. According to a news release, the officer noticed both occupants of the vehicle appeared to be nervous.
That's when the officer attempted to see the vehicle's inspection and registration stickers. The driver then braked and turned south onto Patterson Street. Police say it appeared the driver was trying to avoid them.
Assistance was requested and the suspect then stopped the car at the corner of Memory and Comanche. The driver then ran through back yard and an alley.
The passenger was secured and the driver continued running. He was eventually tackled and taken into custody without injury. A taser was used to complete the arrest.
He was identified as Richard Joel Ortega, 27. He was wanted on nine city warrants and a felony Potter County warrant for dangerous drugs.
Additionally, officers recovered a bottle with more than one gram of what is believed to be methamphetamine from Ortega's pants pocket.
The passenger was released from the scene and not arrested.
