AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A clear cut example of the Panhandle Spirit sat outside the Amarillo Sox Stadium Saturday. A huge truck provided by Affiliated Foods was parked outside all day where the Amarillo Sox General Manager, Mark Lee, loaded up water, clothing, canned foods and other non-perishable items all donated by local citizens.
"What we're trying to do is assist the Salvation Army in helping the fire victims. You know, we've had a lot of fires in the Panhandle. You know a lot of people have been devastated by it and you know we're trying to do our part", says Lee.
Donations will also be accepted Sunday from 3:00pm to 6:00pm and Monday before and during the Amarillo Sox baseball game. Lee says they help because this baseball team isn't just about the sport.
"This baseball team here is not just about baseball. It's about everything so you know we're going to do everything we can to help out as best we can", says Lee.
Even a few victims of the wildfires themselves came out today to donate other items that will go to the Salvation Army.
"The first car that drove up today was a good friend of mine who literally lost everything in a fire so you know, you've got to love that spirit", adds Lee.
Lee also feels it's that kind of spirit that speaks volumes about the Panhandle people and those willing to help others in need.
"I've got to imagine that if you've lost everything, this is all going to be good so you know, we'll take whatever you got to help those families", continues Lee.
