CANYON, TEXAS -- Red, white and blue about as far as the eye could see.

That's what was filling up the streets of downtown Canyon Monday morning. The annual Fourth of July Patriotic Parade, vendor booths, and Fair on the Square had this sea of people celebrating early Monday morning. With so many festivities, it's only natural that everyone has a favorite.

"Probably the flyover. We always have a traditional flyover that starts the parade", said Executive Director of the Canyon Chamber of Commerce, Cheryl Malcolm.

"Fire trucks, police cars, motorcycles", said one excited little girl, Taylor Thomas.

"There's a lot of different shops to look at, you can get your face painted, there's corn on the corn, turkey legs, everything", adds Rustic Twist Boutique Manager, Kelsey Murgel.

No matter what you liked, there was something there to suit your fancy and judging by the number of stars and stripes being displayed proudly, it was evident that the real reason for celebrating was not forgotten.

"It's being together and being thankful that we have the freedom to do what we need to in the United States", said Canyon resident Melinda Anderson.

"People say that the 4th of July is about fireworks but I feel like the 4th of July is about independence and freedom and we get to do that in this country and I think all of us out here appreciate every aspect of that concept and that's what is most important to us and we all get to do it together", continues Malcolm.

Enough people filled Canyon today for Monday's day of fun and freedom to triple the city's population and that's enough to make any patriot's heart beat a little harder.

"It's definitely one of the most patriotic parades we feel like in the state of Texas and that just makes my heart swell", said Malcolm.
