AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Wildfires have devastated the Panhandle for months, and Wednesday, the news got even more serious.

In the last few days, there have been reports some fires were set deliberately, officials said.

There were four fires reported the night of July 4, two structure fires, a grass fire and a fence fire.

After taking a closer look, the Amarillo Fire Marshal's Office has decided that those fires appear to have been set intentionally.

Jacob Diaz, Deputy Fire Marshal said, "After investigation those are all determined to be intentionally set fires. On July 5, we had a grass fire that was also determined to be intentionally set and the cause of those is still under investigation."

"We're not real sure if they' tie together at this time.”

The following Google map shows the locations of the fires.

That makes it five recent fires that they have declared arson.

While they can't say why they think any person or persons are setting these fires, Diaz does ask that if you see anything suspicious, you should give them a call.

"What we're asking the citizens to do at this point is just, if you see anything that may look suspicious, whether it be cars, persons or just anything that's out of the ordinary and it's somewhere in the vicinity of a fire just contact our office, the Fire Marshals office," Diaz said.

Any information on who may be setting these fires, Diaz says, is good information.

"Again any information, no matter how minute it may be could be vital to helping us solve these intentionally set fires."

The fires have all been in one general area of the city, including the 1700 block of North Jefferson, the 1400 block of North Madison, the 2000 block of 18th, the 1900 block of North Adams and the 400 block of Northwest 24th.

Diaz says they are working diligently to get this person or persons off the street.

If you have any information you can call the Fire Marshals office at 378-4239 or Amarillo Crime Stoppers at 374-4400.
