AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Pronews 7 has confirmed that 64 employees of Nationwide Insurance in Amarillo are being laid off.
Mike Switzer, spokesperson for the auto insurance company explained the Amarillo office is not closing but 64 of its employees received 60-day notices that their jobs are being terminated.
325 people will remain employed at the office. Those employes are part of the personal lines service center. Those employees provide customer service.
The 64 people being laid off are part of Nationwide Sales Solutions, where consumers can buy insurance directly fron Nationwide via phone or web.
Switzer explained that both operations are being consolidated. The laid-off employees will receive severance and can begin their job search immediately.
The company says it is trying to help the employees as much as possible with career counseling and possible employment within the company itself.
While the company admits it's unfortunate to lay off employees, it says this will have no impact on its customers.
