LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - Police in Las Cruces are searching for a 29-year-old woman because they believe her newborn infant is in immediate danger.

Renee Marie Garcia was seen at about 5 a.m. Friday walking with her 14-day-old young son on Montana Avenue in central Las Cruces.

Police spokesman Dan Trujillo says officers believe the baby is in serious danger, although he declined to say exactly why.

Garcia is 29 years old and has brown hair and brown eyes. She is 5-feet, 4-inches tall and weighs about 130 pounds. She was recently staying at a downtown hotel but has stayed at a home on the city's east mesa.

Trujillo says anyone who sees Garcia or knows where she should call police immediately.
