SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Santa Fe's interim police chief has been officially promoted to the top law enforcement job.
The city announced Thursday that Ray Rael was being given the job permanently after filling in for 16 weeks.
The city announced City Manager Robert Romero's decision though a press release. Romero told the Santa Fe New Mexican that when Rael first stepped into the interim job he said he really didn't want it permanently. That changed over the past four months.
The police chief job was never advertised and no formal interviews were held.
