AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The High Plains Food Bank tries to feed 71,000 people a month and they need your help now as donations are down across the Panhandle region.
Those numbers translate into more than 600,000 pounds of food a month and they're taking a triple hit which has depleted their shelves.
As of Friday, they say they have very little protein like meats and nuts and it's what most of their 189 agencies are asking for from the Food Bank.
"Food prices and gas prices where they are, food donations are down," said Broc Carter, Director of Communication for the High Plains Food Bank. "Literally, we have no proteins, so that's what our agencies request -- fresh meats, peanut butter and beans,"
Carter said the food bank can always use some volunteers -- especially some help tending the garden it maintains to grow its own food for distribution.
The High Plains Food Bank is located at 815 Ross in Amarillo. They can be reached at (806) 374-8562
