The hearing for the Colorado Senator who is accused of causing the death of a pregnant Amarillo woman last December has been postponed, according to the Hartley County Justice of the Peace.
Pronews 7 confirmed the July 20 hearing for Sen. Suzanne Williams is being postponed. Justice of the Peace Edwyna Womble told Pronews 7 she is not sure when exactly it will be rescheduled for.
"We will resolve the issue as soon as possible," she said.
Judge Womble explained it is not uncommon for people to ask to reschedule traffic court. She said Williams' attorney filed a motion to have it moved.
As for Williams, she may not even appear at the hearing since she is represented by an attorney. Williams pleaded not guilty to the three misdemeanor traffic tickets she was cited for.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, she was cited for:
1. Unsecured child under 17 years of age
2. Child unsecured by a safety seat system under 8 years of age
3. Driving on wrong side of road not passing
It was back in May when a Hartley County grand jury declined to indict Colorado Sen. Williams in the case. Instead, Williams was cited on the three misdemeanor charges.
The case stems from Dec. 26, 2010, when Williams' car veered into oncoming traffic near Channing on U.S. 385. Her car crashed into the car of Brianna Gomez, 30 of Amarillo. Gomez was pregnant and her son, Curran, was delivered by cesarean section and survived. Brianna Gomez was killed.
