AMARILLO, TEXAS -- If you've got a child in school, chances are your "to-do" list is pretty long right now and with Amarillo and Canyon schools beginning registration Wednesday and Thursday... it's probably about to get longer.
But, a few regular back to school reminders should help ease the process.
"Make sure that you come to registration if possible and get that done beforehand and then get as many of the supplies beforehand and be prepared for that first day", said CISD Executive Director of Support Services, Robyn Cranmer.
"Proof of residence is key at any campus and that would be a utility bill such as gas, water or electric or a lease agreement. Also, if it's a brand new student, she'll need a birth certificate, social security card and for some returning students and new students you do need a shot record as well", said Principal of Margaret Wills Elementary, Karen Atkinson.
Besides registration and school supplies shopping, there are a couple of things that also might make that first day a little less painful.
"If you've gotten off on the schedule and you're staying up a little bit later and getting up a little bit later, start getting back into those normal bedtimes", added Atkinson.
"Get a good night's sleep and a good breakfast and send them off for a great day", said Cranmer.
If back-to-school nerves have your child less than thrilled to be going back, check to see if your campus is hosting a "Meet and Greet".
"Many campuses also have a meet and greet before school starts. That way you can kind of get a feel for the building, you can meet your teacher, see your classroom and that takes away a lot of these first day jitters", continued Atkinson.
One more thing you might actually want to add to your to-do list -- check out the Amarillo ISD or Canyon ISD websites for any additional back-to-school information about registration, school supplies or "Meet and Greets", because once that's checked off, that list might not seem so intimidating after all.
