AMARILLO, TEXAS -- When the Christian,non-profit organization Acts Community took a stand a few months ago to help rebuild the homes of wildfire victims, they expected setbacks, but nothing like the one that hit them Wednesday night.
"They lost everything once and here we're rolling along, things are moving very quickly and all of the sudden there's this huge setback", said Executive Director of Acts Community, Chad Conner.
After several weeks of construction, Thursday morning Acts found their most recent project in ruins. Winds that ripped through the area Wednesday night blew down the entire framing of the house.
"It's almost like we're starting back with just a flat slab", added Conner.
Devastation like this, Conner said, is going to set Acts back in more ways than one.
"This really hurts us you know, like I said, financially but more than that the timeline. You know, we have lots of people that are volunteering their time and we have them set to work during a certain week and this totally throws that off", said Conner.
Acts needs about $10,000 to get back on track financially for this project and volunteers to help them make up lost time. But, what looks like a huge setback in the construction of this home, Acts says is nothing more than a test of their faith.
"It's been hard work and it's really discouraging when something like this happens but God has proven to be so faithful and so you just pick up the pieces and keep going. It's just one of those times where you go, okay, God's done this much, he can finish it", continued Conner.
So, that's just what Acts is determined to do -- finish.
"We'll have to work a little bit harder but we're still going to build all four houses and this is just a small thing and in two to three weeks, we'll be back to where we were yesterday and we're just going to keep moving."
