AMARILLO, TX -- Going green is being taken literally by one of Amarillo's biggest recyclers who are adding another material to their pick-up list.

K&B Recyclers is starting a fleet of bright green trucks, that will be used to pick up cardboard only. A majority of their customers need cardboard removal and this will make the process more affordable and efficient, according to its founder, Chris Bunnett.

"Lots of businesses had 50-60% of their waste stream is cardboard and that's what we wanted to do. We wanted to find a way to get that stuff out of the waste stream and turn it into something profitable for us."

There's a new green "cardboard only" dumpster at the new Chick Fil-A on Georgia. They see recycling as good for the bottom line and the environment..

"We're looking into their corporate sponsorship program where we help out the AISD with the recycling options because we feel it's a great option and as many folks in Amarillo that can should be doing this," said Joshua Raef, Chick fil-A Owner.

Amarillo's school district officials are always looking for ways to save, and with a majority of their supplies and lunches using cardboard, they're on board too...and expect to seen big savings in just the first year, according to AISD Spokesperson, Holly Shelton.

"And so by recycling cardboard, we can eliminate some dumpsters, eliminate some of the times the city is picking up trash at our schools and we think over the year, we'll save approximately $50,000 dollars."

Shelton says they'll continue to look for way to save money for the district, and in doing so, do they're part to save the planet as well.
