AMARILLO, TEXAS -- It's like something out of fairy tale, a random stranger giving thousands of dollars to a young lady to pay for her college education, but this is no fairy tale and it happened right here in Amarillo.
Rebecca Hoben is a freshman at Amarillo College.
Not too long ago, her mother lost her job, and her father was working overtime just to pay the bills.
"We're almost in the red so they couldn't help me at all. I had $700 from all the graduation money, but I didn't have enough to pay out of district at college for all the classes I was going to take."
Before Rebecca went to pay her tuition, she decided to drop a few classes so that she could afford to take at least some classes.
That was all before a perfect stranger changed her life.
"There was this guy standing there and he saw I was stressed trying to figure out what to do and he asked, are you paying your tuition? And I said yes, so he whipped out his wallet go this credit card out and said, I'm going to pat for everything in full right now and all the books."
Rebecca says she never felt that kind of excitement before and she couldn't do anything but shed tears of joy.
"I almost cried until he pretty much said don't cry don't cry, I'm going to start crying and all the girls there pretty much said the same thing so once I left I just started crying and cried all the way back to where my sister was."
Rebecca says she plans to repay the mystery man the best way she knows how and that's by getting straight A's.
The mystery man is no mystery to Rebecca anymore, but she says he would like to remain nameless, and she says after she finishes her basics, she wants to go to veterinary school.
