AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Recent fires ignited by the improper disposal of smoking materials are prompting local fire officials to remind residents of the continued dangers of wildfire season.

The Amarillo Fire Department reports it has responded to several calls recently where fires were started by the improper disposal and/or use of smoking materials.

The hot, dry weather conditions the area continues to experience result in dangerous fire conditions. Residents are reminded to properly dispose of smoking materials because conditions in the Amarillo area are ideal for rapd fire growth.
