PORTALES, N.M. (AP) - The Roosevelt County Commission is deciding if a new courthouse is in the county's future. The Portales News Tribune (http://bit.ly/n3ybiP) reports Judge Linda Short and Ruth Dygert of Magistrate Court were present at the Wednesday meeting.

County Clerk Janet Collins says the county would pay for the building and lease it to the courts.

She says the discussion included the need for more room and security in the Magistrate Court building.

Collins says the hope is that a new facility will ensure a safer work environment for court employees.

The meeting was a preliminary planning session for the possibility of building a new facility and no action was taken.
