CANYON, TEXAS -- "It's a competitive job market out there", said West Texas A&M's Director of Career and Counseling Services, Denese Skinner.
If you're a soon-to-be or recent college graduate, you probably know how true that statement really is.
Rasmussen reports show that 89 percent of American adults believe it be will at least somewhat difficult for recent grads to find a job. That's where West Texas A&M's Career Service Center steps in.
"We have mock interviews, we'll have job fairs, we have on campus interviews where employers come to our campus looking to hire and interview", said Skinner.
Career service at WT even works with local employers and when they're notified of a job opening, so are the students.
"The employer gets a really tailor made system of finding and identifying and hiring those students who meet what their needs may be", added Skinner.
Last year, about 63% of WT's total student population used Career Services and they seem to be working.
"We have a 78% employment rate right now, those students that have reported that they're employed which is higher than the national average", said Skinner.
Other numbers WT and many other Texas schools are reporting changes in -- veteran enrollment numbers.
"We have more students going to school already, we also are seeing an influx of veterans returning from their assignments and we also have some changes to veterans benefits programs and more and more students are becoming aware of how these programs affect them and their family members", said WT's Vice President of Enrollment, Dan Garcia.
Garcia told us WT saw a 38 percent veteran enrollment increase this semester when numbers jumped up to 442 veteran, dependent or active duty students.
So, from Career Services to veteran benefits, WT Buffs needn't worry, they've got your back.
