AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A federal grand jury has indicted two area men in a mail drug scheme that could have turned deadly.

Two men allegedly tried to send pot through the mail and they also allegedly threatened to kill a mail carrier and one of his family members.

According to Tuesday's indictment, Tony Phommachanh and Carlos Martin Gonzales, both of Moore County, are accused of running a marijuana distribution ring using the U.S. Postal Service.

The men are charged with conspiracy and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, using a federal mail service. In addition, they are accused of threatening to kill the postal carrier along with an immediate family member.

Another man, Daniel Tarango, along with Phommachanh, is charged with aiding and abetting and intent to distribute marijuana less than 50 kilograms.

The alleged incidents happened in June of this year. Neither suspect is in custody, an official told Pronews 7.
