PORTALES, N.M. -- Another university in the region has been named a "Military Friendly School" by G.I. Jobs magazine -- Eastern New Mexico University.
This distinction puts ENMU among the top 20 percent of schools who made the list. The decision was made through research of about 8,000 higher education institutions.
ENMU offers several services for military members including a VA counselor, helping them get waivers for in-state tuition, waiving physical activity courses and giving them credit for courses based on their military experiences.
"We are very pleased to be named a 'Military Friendly School,'" said Steven Gamble, ENMU president. "With our close proximity to Cannon Air Force Base, we are sensitive to the needs of our military members who serve our country with such distinction. We want to do everything we can to help them achieve their educational goals and make a successful transition to civilian life."
West Texas A&M University was also named to the list.
