AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Thursday, after years of work, the City of Amarillo had reason to celebrate something that's good for our water supply.
City officials have put a lot of effort into planning, developing and improving the new Potter County Well Field. So Thursday, city commissioners and the City Water Utilities Department met at the field for a "Valve Turning Ceremony". The new well field will provide some 20 million additional gallons of water to Amarillo every day, which they say is good for the drought and Amarillo's future.
"With Lake Meredith doing what it's doing, it'll maintain and keep our water supply current and up to date for the next 200 years. We're doing something for our grandchildren and our great grandchildren to ensure that they have fresh, quality water in the future", said former City Commissioner, Ron Boyd.
The new Potter County Well Field was funded by the Texas Water Development Board.
