What is up in the sky?

Is it a UFO? No!

They are actually experimental balloons. According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, they are high-altitude research balloons. They are not from the National Weather Service.

The NASA research facility near Fort Sumner, N.M. launched a pair of balloons which are visible in the sky and will be visible for long after sunset. They are researching gamma rays from a super nova.

In fact, the balloons may be visible for a few days around sunrise and sunset. That's because the sun reflects on the balloons and creates a glowing effect.

At 8:00 Friday evening, one was over the Canyon area and another was over Clovis, N.M.
