AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A 21-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison for the 2008 murder of a 77-year-old Amarillo man.
DeShawuqee Douglas Williams, 21, pleaded guilty Thursday to the charges of Murder, Aggravated Robbery and Burglary of Habitation, 47th District Attorney Randall Sims said.
He was sentenced to the maximum sentence for each of the charges. That's a life sentence for both murder and aggravated robbery. He was also sentenced to 20 years for Burglary of Habitation.
Sims said a life sentence is the equivalent of 30 years day-for-day before becoming eligible for review for possible parole.
It was on May 8, 2008, when 77-year-old Max Stanhope was killed in his home in the 2500 block of North Orange Street. Williams was later caught in Lubbock and charged with the murder.
The Burglary with Habitation charge was committed about a month earlier on April 21, 2008.
