An 11-day-old baby was killed early Monday morning after being bitten by the family dog.
According to Amarillo Police, officers were dispatched to a local hospital at about 3:20 a.m. Monday to investigate a report of an 11-day-old infant being bitten by a dog. The incident happened at a home on the southeast side of town.
Initial reports were that a baby was suffering from life-threatening injuries from a Pitbull/Mastiff mix.
An investigation was launched by the Crimes Against Persons Unit, Animal Control and Special Crimes.
The newborn later died at the hospital from the injuries. An autopsy will be performed Tuesday in Lubbock.
