AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Changes are also coming to a program that gives Amarillo Library patrons access to a wider collection of library materials.
The Texas State Library and Archive Commission, which has funded the Inter Library Loan (ILL) throughout the state for the last 30 years, received an 80 percent cut in its funding during the last legislative session.
Despite the cuts, officials say the library is going to continue the service; however, patrons will have to pay a small fee for using it the first time.
"We are going to continue to provide Inter Library services, but in order to do so we are going to cover most of the cost but we are asking our patrons who use the service to cover the return postage cost for each item that they have checked out and then returned," said Amarillo Director of Library Services, Donna Littlejohn.
The average cost to send one item to another library is three dollars, so patrons will be asked to cover that charge every time they use the service.
