AMARILLO, TEXAS -- President Obama has created a special board to help resolve a dispute between major U.S. freight railroads and their unions and that averts a costly strike for at least 60 days.

11 unions representing more than 90,000 railway workers have been unable to reach agreement on a new contract with the railroads, that included Burlington Northern Santa Fe.

Several unions had voted to start striking at midnight.
