AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Governor Rick Perry has named Randall County Sheriff Joel Richardson Chairman of the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education.

Richardson has already served four years of a six-year appointed term, and now will serve his remaining two years as chairman.

That means he will preside over the quarterly meetings of that commission in Austin.

"It's a big honor and it's very humbling and I will do my very best to serve the people of this state at that position."

Richardson says he will continue on with his usual duties as Sheriff of Randall County, and he appreciates the governor's consideration for this job and hopes he is up to the task.
