A brand new 66,000 square foot building, sitting atop the highest point in Borger, is now going to be the new Golden Plains Community Hospital.
A grand opening is set for Monday, October 24.
"You don't have to go to Amarillo to get cardiac study because we can do that on our 64 slice CT", said Golden Plains Community Hospital Administrator, Dennis Jack. "We've made a 50 percent increase in our ER so we can see more patients and quicker through the ER and, again, so you don't have to go all the way down to Amarillo."
The new $28 million facility will have 25 patient beds, expanded OR rooms and new and updated equipment.
"If you had a full body scan on our current machine it would probably take you three minutes. On this machine, it takes you 15 seconds", said Jack.
New moms and babies also have something extra to look forward to.
"They're huge rooms, made more to look like a living room or bedroom at home and have all the facilities in them to do birth but then you can recover in there and be right close to your baby", added Jack.
"We want you to have a good night's sleep", continued Jack as he pointed out additional pull-out beds designed for fathers or other family members in the Labor and Delivery Rooms.
There's even an update "outside" the actual facility -- a helicopter landing zone.
Jack expects a 25 percent increase in demand and he says, they're excited for that.
"Free parking, no problem finding us," said Jack. "We're the best view in all of town."
The new Golden Plains Community Hospital will have an open house for the public on Saturday from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.
