AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Good news for students of Amarillo College's new lineman training program -- that program just received a huge donation.
Thursday, Xcel Energy presented Amarillo College with a line truck to use for training. Students will use it to learn skills like placing poles, reaching wires and other various above ground repairs. Because Amarillo College would normally have to pay more than $225,000 for a piece of equipment like this truck, AC says it will benefit greatly from this donation.
"We cannot afford to buy the massive pieces of equipment to run in the program and that's where when Xcel energy and other companies step in and donate," said AC's Dean of Career and Technical Education Shawn Fouts. "It just saves students and we don't have to try to find funds to do that. It's just an indispensible partnership."
The truck will be housed on Amarillo College's East Campus.
