OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Gov. Mary Fallin says she plans to lift a burn ban in effect for 14 Oklahoma counties early next week.
Citing recent rains and cooler temperatures, Fallin announced Friday that she plans to lift the governor's burn ban Tuesday at 1 p.m. She says she wants to give county commissioners time to assess local conditions and determine if a county-imposed ban should remain in place.
The governor's burn ban remains in place for the Oklahoma Panhandle and clusters of counties in southeast and southwest Oklahoma. Marshall County in south-central Oklahoma also remains under a county commissioners-imposed burn ban through Nov. 7.
Despite recent rains, extreme drought conditions persist across much of Oklahoma. Forestry officials urge caution with any outdoor cooking or other activities that involve an open flame.
