AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Bright colors filled up the sidewalk at John Stiff Memorial Park early Saturday morning.

As part of the Sixth Annual Pirates of the Canyon Balloon Rally, the Amarillo By Morning Lions Club "Chalk Walk" kicked off at 9:00am in the park. Although bad weather forced the balloons and water activities to be cancelled, several people still came out to try their hand at some sidewalk chalk art. From a scene from Alice In Wonderland to a detailed cross, the decorated walking path quickly became quite the mural.

"We've got some professionals coming out here bringing their kids and everything so I think we're going to have some really good work out here," said Amarillo By Morning Lions Club President Royce Green. "It gives the community a chance to come out here and participate and it's something unique to Amarillo."

The chalk artists and their work were judged with a winner announced. The Amarillo By Morning Lions Club will use the money raised from the event to create scholarships for students attending Amarillo College.
