AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Northwest Texas Health Care System's blood management program is the only one in the Texas Panhandle.

One of just a handful of similar programs in the nation that employ transfusion safety officers....providing physicians guidelines that will help them make the best possible decision when they order transfusions.

Which one doctor says will help their supply tremendously.

"That helps the supply here, it makes us a good steward of the product we do have available from coffee memorial, as well as insuring the best quality for those patients and the most safety they can have," said Medical Director of Laboratory Pathology, James Hamous.

Officals say using the blood responsibly and eliminating inappropriate use and waste of blood products is the best way they can show appreciation to donors.
