AMARILLO, TEXAS -- With an estimated 5.1 million Americans suffering from Alzheimer's disease, getting routine memory screenings is becoming more and more important.
To help drive that message home and recognize National Memory Screening Day, Texas Tech University Health Science Center hosted free memory screenings Tuesday morning. Screenings can help detect Alzheimers and other memory conditions in a patient early on.
"Alzheimer's is a big problem in the United States and it's estimated that the numbers are going to continue to rise," said Texas Tech School of Pharmacy professor, Dr. Eric MacLaughlin. "Number one factor for development of Alzheimer's is age. Ideally, if you can catch a problem, we catch it early so we can get adequate treatment."
If you didn't have a chance to get screened Tuesday but you or someone you know would like to be screened, contact Texas Tech University's Alzheimers Academy at 356-4637 or find them online.
